Where To Give Birth. by Hege Crowton
Congratulation, you have just found out that you are
expecting a baby. By being pregnant you probably know
that there are major changes and decisions which need
to be made while being pregnant and preparing for the
birth of your child. Most of these decisions are not
so hard to make but for many women the biggest decision
is how and where to give birth.
Some of you may think that there is no question about
it, you are of course going to the hospital. This is
not as usual as it used to be since more and more women
want to give birth at home instead of going to the hospital.
The problem is that you may be a little worried of not
having the security of a medical staff around you in
case something goes wrong.
This fear is very normal and something most women wanting
a home birth are experiencing. Most women who decide
to give birth at home generally seek help from an experienced
midwife to assist them when the time comes and this
is about as close to a hospital birth as you can get
since a midwife normally bring along everything she
needs in case of an emergency.
If you have ever read about home births you may feel
a little comforted when reading that on the over all
home births seem to be safer than giving birth in the
hospital. Safer in this case meaning that there are
actually less injuries and trauma to the mother and
child when the birth is happening at home. The reasons
for this is believed to be that the stress are much
less in the comfort of your own home than in the hospital.
As long as your pregnancy have been normal and everything
is well with both you and the baby you can even give
birth at home without the help of anyone but yourself
and your baby's father. Doing this can be the most beautiful
experience you will ever have but at the same time it
can be very scary, especially for dad. If unassisted
birth is what you are considering make sure to educate
yourself before having your baby so at least you will
know what to do.
Having a hospital birth just may be the right choice
for many of you and regardless of your decision it is
bound to be a wonderful experience. Yes it will be a
little painful but you will get over it as soon as you
see your baby. At least now you know that you have some
options when it comes to giving birth and if you do
not want to go to the hospital to give birth you do
not have to. Where and how to give birth is your choice
and you should do what feels best for you.
